We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, and self-confident Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel (dependant on experience) to support RWE’s fast-growing international Offshore Wind business.
As a Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel within the global Construction & Procurement Law team you will work alongside other members of the RWE Offshore Wind legal team and closely cooperate with other departments to deliver holistic and streamlined legal support to RWE’s international Offshore Wind business.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Providing legal support to the international procurement, construction, and operation activities of RWE’s Offshore Wind business
2. Advising on, developing, drafting, and negotiating all types of construction and procurement contracts required for the full life cycle of RWE’s Offshore Wind business (including turbine supply agreements, foundation contracts, EPC(I) & turnkey contracts, purchase agreements for components, service agreements and contracts for maritime logistics (eg. BIMCO) etc)
3. Being a project’s first point of contact, working closely with the Procurement team, for construction and procurement law support, and coordinating specialised in-house and external legal advice in a cost and work-efficient manner
4. Keeping oversight of all legal matters relating to projects in your remit and advising senior management about all related legal risks, including claims and disputes
5. Providing legal support (including liaising with external counsel) to any disputes arising out of negotiated contracts
6. Driving standardisation and process improvement initiatives within the Construction & Procurement Law team
7. Developing non-standard, customised solutions when needed to address complex project challenges
8. Establishing and nurturing effective cross-functional and cross-cultural working relationships with legal and business colleagues in the relevant regions and the wider RWE group
Skills and Experience
9. Qualified as a lawyer in the United Kingdom
10. Several years of work experience as a private practice lawyer or in-house counsel in a leading law firm or company, working either in the energy sector or with a focus on large-scale, high-value infrastructure projects
11. Extensive working knowledge of international construction and procurement law standard forms (e.g., FIDIC, BIMCO, etc.)
12. Renewables experience (and offshore wind experience in particular) would be beneficial but is not a pre-requisite, however, the interested candidate will be able to demonstrate a desire to become an expert in this field
13. The ability to handle multiple tasks, take on new responsibilities, and organise workload effectively in a collaborative environment
14. Commercial and technical understanding of large infrastructure projects and a good understanding of how to best support them from the legal point of view
15. Enhanced organisational, analytical, and communication skills and a solution-oriented and positive mindset
16. A high level of engagement, a strong team contributor, and the ability to work both individually and as part of a wider cross-functional team
17. Fluent in English (other language skills are beneficial) and enjoys working in an international team and open to some work-related travel

Location: Swindon, Coventry or London (Swindon however will be the primary office location meaning there will be an expectation to maintain some presence in this office (eg. 1-2 days every 2 weeks). Flexible working will be considered however a minimum expectation is two (2) days a week in the office and as otherwise required to meet the business needs
