Interim Principal Health And Safety Consultant

Pay Rate: up to £287.05 per day PAYE max
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Thursday, 09:00 - 17:30
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months
City: BRISTOL
4 days a week on site in Bristol split between the Parks and Harbour Offices.
The Senior Health and Safety (H&S) Consultant will support the Harbour and Parks services by dividing their time between both areas — 2 days at the Harbour and 2 days working with Parks. The main objective is to ensure that quality assurance and compliance processes are in place to meet statutory obligations for both the Harbour and Parks Estate.
They will be responsible for auditing and stress-testing existing processes and documentation, then developing and delivering a comprehensive work program, which will include a specific list of tasks. Additionally, the Senior H&S Consultant will prepare a forward-looking H&S management system based on HSG65, detailing required resources and allocating service staff appropriately to ensure full compliance across both service areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on, develop and deliver a prioritised and resourced work programme.
Take a lead on implementing the Health and Safety Management Systems across Parks and Harbour service areas.
Act as an internal consultant to advise and coach managers on their responsibilities for health and safety duties, providing guidance and practical solutions to ensure legal compliance and best practice.
Communicate, consult, and share best practice across all directorates to improve consistency and performance to include providing expert opinion on any matter’s health and safety related.
Undertake specific/specialist assessments (including HAV/NOISE) and advise/support managers through the risk assessment process at an operational level.
Ensure all accidents/incidents/near misses are properly reported internally and externally where necessary, and investigated, in accordance with internal policy and legislation.
Take a lead in the development of a health and safety offer for service users.
Be responsible for delivering allocated projects.
Key requirements:
Fully qualified NEBOSH Diploma evidence of CPD and experience of working in the public sector.
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent including the following: Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and have a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate.
Must have demonstrable experience of start and finish project work for health and safety which are outcome based.
Prior experience and be able to demonstrate senior level stakeholder engagement and evidence of the ability to understand relevant policy and translate into working arrangements.
Strong and consistent track record of successful service delivery outcomes across a range of services related to green and blue space.
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly build effective working relationships and influence people at all levels.
Must have good decision making, ability to work at pace in a multi complex and diverse service.
