Due to significant growth over the course of2024 OCU Northavon (part of the OCU Group) have a new requirementfor a Managing Quantity Surveyor to be based in Taunton or BishopSutton.
The purpose of the role is to manage andoversee the quantity surveying team ensuring all financial andcontractual aspects of projects are controlled and managedeffectively. The MQS will provide strategic guidance on costmanagement procurement and contract administration ensuringprojects are delivered within budget and to the higheststandards.
Duties andResponsibilities:
Leadershipand Management:
* Leadand manage a team of quantity surveyors providing mentorship andguidance.
* Allocate resources efficiently toensure project deliverables are met.
* Conductperformance reviews and identify training needs for teammembers.
CostManagement:
* Prepare andoversee cost plans and estimates forprojects.
* Monitor project budgets and managecost control throughout the projectlifecycle.
* Provide accurate financial reportsand forecasts to seniormanagement.
Procurement:
* Developprocurement strategies and manage tenderprocesses.
* Negotiate and manage contracts withsubcontractors and suppliers.
* Ensure compliancewith company policies and legal requirements during the procurementprocess.
ContractAdministration:
* Managecontract documentation and variations.
* Ensuretimely and accurate assessment of interim payments and finalaccounts.
* Resolve contractual disputes andclaimsefficiently.
RiskManagement:
* Identifyand assess potential risks and develop mitigationstrategies.
* Monitor risk throughout the projectand adjust strategies asnecessary.
StakeholderManagement:
* Maintaineffective communication with clients contractors and otherstakeholders.
* Build and maintain strong workingrelationships to ensure successful projectdelivery.
QualityAssurance:
* Implementand maintain quality assurance procedures for cost and contractmanagement.
* Ensure all work is completed to thehighest standards and complies with relevantregulations.
Skills andExperience:
Education:
* Adegree in Quantity Surveying Construction Management or a relatedfield.
* Membership with a professional body suchas the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is highlydesirable.
Experience:
* Extensiveexperience in quantity surveying within the construction orinfrastructure sectors.
* Proven track record ina senior quantity surveying role with managementresponsibilities.
* Experience in managinglargescale projects from inception tocompletion.
Skills:
* Strongleadership and team managementskills.
* Excellent financial and numericalskills.
* Proficient in contract law and standardforms of contract used in the UK.
* Exceptionalnegotiation and communication skills.
* Abilityto work under pressure and meet tightdeadlines.
* Proficient in relevant software andtools (e.g. MS Office CostXCATO).
* Full UK drivinglicense.
* Willingness to travel to variousproject sites asrequired.
