About the role
The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in constructed textiles (including a strong understanding of various yarn/fibre types, weaving structures, digital jacquard loom operation and hand and/or machine kitting) with the potential for secondary expertise in the basics of tufting. Experience of the TC2 loom software or an alternative loom package is desirable. They will also be able to demonstrate and support students to the highest level and will have knowledge of traditional and contemporary textile construction. The ability to confidently operate a CAD jacquard loom and knit machines is required.
The post holder will be flexible and inspirational in their approach to delivery in order to support the diverse subject matter and the students' aspirations and expectations. They will be responsible for ensuring that the learning environment is adequately resourced, whilst supporting learners in the use of relevant equipment, materials and software. A good working knowledge of current health and safety is desirable, as is the ability to manage students to a high standard in this area.
The successful candidate will deliver a variety of induction programs, provide group demonstrations of a range of related processes, and provide day-to-day support for students undertaking their project work. In addition, they will be required to develop and make teaching resources and learning aids and assist academics in the preparation of taught sessions.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential, as is a Level 3 qualification and/or equivalent experience. Ideally candidates should possess a degree and/or a subject related qualification or equivalent experience in Textiles.
The successful candidate may on occasion be asked to work flexibly within the team to support student deadlines and end of year shows.
