About the Role
Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland.
Salary: £63,000 - £94,000 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Full Time | Flexible First options available
Reporting to the Lead HVDC Engineering Manager, responsible for delivery of HVDC Engineering scope for assigned projects (typical value £700M - £2000M), ensuring appropriate input and guidance from the Technical team and external consultants.
The responsibilities of the HVDC Engineering Manager include:
1. Safety: Promote and manage safety within project, including Safety in Design, implementation of CDM procedures and Principle designer (PD) practice.
2. Project Engineering: Responsible for Engineering delivery of assigned projects (typical capital value £700m - £2000m). Work closely with Project teams to ensure Engineering and Quality risks are identified and understood, and ensure issues are dealt with pro-actively and minimise risk to project/asset quality and programme.
3. Engineering Resources: Responsible for securing sufficient and competent engineering resources, including consultants, to ensure quality, timely, and value delivery of project engineering design.
4. Technical: Responsible for managing design plans and engineering work information. Schedule design reviews and ensure skilled project technical leadership. Ensure teams refer technical issues to engineering. Identify early technology elements needing Technical Authority approval.
5. Quality: Responsible for review/approval of Project Quality Plans. Ensure that SQEP resources are clearly identified, and given responsibility for quality interventions, including specific manufacturing and construction hold points, inspections, witnessing and acceptance testing. Ensure that pro-active quality interventions are defined in the Quality Plan and ITPs, to minimise the risk of rework and project delay.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
1. Degree in appropriate engineering discipline (preferably CEng).
2. Strong technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of core elements, and high level technical understanding of facilitating functions and project delivery.
3. In depth knowledge of industry standards and specifications, and SHET technical specifications, and how to determine applicability of relevant standards.
4. Good knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR.
5. Ability to communicate and challenge complex technical issues and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
