R&D Tax - Senior Clinical / Veterinary Consultant

The opportunity
An exciting opportunity to work in EY's Global Grants Credits & Incentives team based in our central London office, alongside other STEM professionals, as well as tax and accounting colleagues.
As a Senior Consultant, you will work with a variety of clients from owner-managed businesses to multinational groups, who are at the forefront of developing cutting-edge technology that helps the UK remain a market leader by encouraging investment into research and development.
The successful candidate will work as part of a diverse team of industry and tax specialists. You will lead interviews with senior technical personnel at our clients across various industries to identify the scientific and technological aspects of their R&D projects that qualify for R&D tax relief. You will actively participate in writing and reviewing reports of clients' R&D projects and engage in extensive client communication.
You will also have the opportunity to support business development and cross-sector claims.
Your key responsibilities
1. Work effectively as a member of a project team, exhibiting strong communication skills and collaborating with team members of different skill sets.
2. Write and review compelling technical project reports to highlight key scientific and technical factors of client projects supporting R&D tax claims.
3. Lead interactions with clients' senior clinical and technical staff to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how aspects of projects meet the R&D Guidelines.
4. Undertake data analysis and calculations to quantify project expenditure.
5. Apply advanced problem-solving skills and critical thinking to project execution and delivery.
6. Build and maintain relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service.
7. Deliver high-quality advice and solutions to major clients, ensuring management of risk and reputation.
8. Adapt and enhance existing knowledge to different sectors and build on core capabilities.
Skills and attributes for success
1. A strong interest in veterinary or clinical science, technology, and engineering problems.
2. Industry-based experience dealing with clinical challenges faced by industry professionals and developing solutions.
3. Ability to swiftly adapt to and learn about different industry sectors across clinical and life sciences and beyond (e.g., automotive, aerospace, civil, defence, food & drink, electronics).
4. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to produce concise summaries of information.
5. Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy.
6. Interest in project and company finances and the application of tax treatment.
To qualify for the role, you must have
1. Degree qualified in Science, veterinary, life sciences, or other clinical specialisms.
2. Industry experience (2+ years).
3. Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a collaborative approach.
4. Flexibility to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Ideally, you'll also have
1. Previous R&D tax experience (not required but advantageous).
