About the roles An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Corporate Strategy & Communities Service for two senior strategy and policy practitioners to help deliver the Council’s Overview & Scrutiny function, drive our corporate equalities agenda, and lead on our cohesion and community engagement portfolios. Scrutiny & Equalities This role will focus on scrutiny & equalities and provides an opportunity to work with elected members and officers to ensure the effective and efficient management of the council’s scrutiny function. The role will support our scrutiny committees, enhance public accountability, and improve decision making. It will also perform a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our corporate equalities agenda. Tackling inequality is a key focus of the Council and the role provides the opportunity to influence our strategic direction on equality. You will have the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders across the council and the community to ensure that equality is embedded in every aspect of our work, from the money we spend and the people we employ, to the services we provide. Community Engagement & Cohesion This role will focus on community engagement & cohesion and provides an opportunity to work with colleagues across the Council and ensure the Council engages and involves residents in the design and delivery of our services. It will lead on the delivery of our recently agreed Community Engagement Strategy. The role will also take forward our Cohesion Plan implementation and work with partners to ensure Tower Hamlets is a cohesive place. About you As a senior strategy & policy practitioner, with knowledge and experience of scrutiny, equalities, cohesion and community engagement, you will design and implement corporate priorities. You will have: An understanding of the overview and scrutiny function in local authorities and the council’s legal duty under the Equalities Act 2010 and associated national, regional and local operating contexts and statutory/regulatory frameworks. An exceptional strategy & policy skillset including policy analysis, evidence-based policy making and strategic planning Collaborative leadership skills in complex partnership environments and astute political understanding. Experience of working on development of cross-cutting policy and corporate strategy and the ability to translate and articulate complex policy / information to a variety of audiences inside and outside of the council. Strong project management skills, experience, and the ability to analyse and interpret information and translate into practical actions. A track record of delivering tangible outcome improvements for residents/service users.
