Job Title: Occupational Therapist Level 2 (Aids and Adaptation / Children)
Location: Manchester
Rate: £37.00
The role involves carrying out functional assessments for disabled children across the city who have both physical and hidden disabilities. These assessments will take place in the child’s home and sometimes at school as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach with health colleagues and the social care team. You will manage a caseload and case manage each allocation, identifying equipment and adaptations that will promote the child’s independence.
What will your responsibilities be?
The role involves conducting functional assessments for disabled children in their homes and schools. It includes identifying and recommending equipment and adaptations such as postural seating, shower chairs, beds, moving and handling risk assessments, safe spaces, padded rooms, and safety assessments. The role also requires making submissions to the majors panel for adaptations and attending Child in Need (CiN) and MDT meetings where appropriate. Liaising with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the disabled child is essential. Additionally, the role involves managing a caseload and providing advice and support to families and other professionals involved in the child’s care.

Qualifications and Experiences:
To be successful in this role, you will need a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Proven experience in both adult and paediatric occupational therapy is essential, along with experience in assessing for equipment and adaptations, including complex major adaptations. Strong skills in identifying and managing the needs of both adults and children, excellent organizational and prioritization abilities, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) are required. A current driving licence and access to a vehicle are necessary, as is a willingness to consent to and apply for an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. Accredited Manual Handling and Advice Training or a willingness to work towards achieving it is also needed. Key behaviours, skills, and technical requirements include effective communication, planning and organizing, analytical skills, problem-solving and decision-making, creative thinking, and IT proficiency.
