Job Summary The role of the Family Support Worker is to engage with families facing complex challenges, aiming to improve student outcomes. They work holistically to support disadvantaged families to overcome a variety of adversities and barriers. Family Support workis student-centred and led by the needs of each individualfamily. By helping students overcome difficulties at school and home, Family Support Workers have a long term impact by improving attendance, behaviour, self-esteem, and confidence, while raising aspirations. Key Responsibilities Work with a caseload of identified families, providing support for practical, social, and emotional needs that may be hindering student progress at school. Assist families facing difficulties, such as bereavement, caring responsibilities, domestic violence and abuse, substance misuse, financial hardship, housing issues, separation or divorce, care orders, parenting challenges, mental and physical health issues, disabilities, and learning difficulties. Offer practical support, programmes, and workshops for referred families. Complete assessments of family needs and develop support plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and external partners. Undertake home and community visits to offer practical assistance and provide pastoral support. Provide pastoral care to students in relation to the complex needs of their families. Work closely with the schools safeguarding and pastoral teams. Stay informed about local service provisions and resources, enabling effective signposting and referrals. Collaborate with school staff to engage parents/carers in school events and workshops, and encourage parent voice to improve the school community. Support young people and families with faith-related matters, offering appropriate referrals to faith-based agencies when needed. Track, record, and measure the impact of support provided, ensuring that outcomes are effectively evaluated. Carry out general administrative tasks as required. Work as an integrated part of the Ethos Team. Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by line management. Qualifications & Experience Must have a clear understanding of our Christian ethos & be able to articulate how Christian values can positively impact students and their families Relevant qualifications & experience to working with young people and families Experience & understanding of working with young people and families with a variety of complex needs & issues Must have own transport, a clean driving license & be willing to travel An understanding of safeguarding & child protection Current enhanced DBS (upon confirmation of role) Personal Competencies Required A familiarity with, & an ability to perform in accordance with, the mission, vision & values of Grace Foundation & its Christian ethos Clear knowledge & understanding of our Christian ethos & how it applies to relevant issues young people and their families face Able to provide pastoral care for families whilst offering practical strategic advice Able to deal resiliently, assertively, and appropriately when dealing with sensitive issues Effective organizational skills & ability to multi-task Effective oral, written, presentation & interpersonal skills A willingness to work with others & a consistent can-do enthusiastic attitude Attention to detail & ability to meet deadlines Confident & able to work on their own initiative Proficiency with IT applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) & social media.
