Job Description : Technical Specialist – Barley and Malted Barley Location: Moray House, Elgin Full-time, Permanent (Office and Site Based) Closing date: 05th Dec As a Technical Specialist in our dedicated Technical Team at Moray House, you will play a pivotal role in the central support functions of Malt Distilling and to support all operational areas across sites in Scotland. You will w ork closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational quality and efficiency performance across and the 4 maltings. Develop and support transformational initiatives in partnership with operations to sustain and enhance efficiency, quality and productivity performance into the future. This role requires a full-time presence in Elgin, Scotland, with daily attendance at Moray House and regular visits to other sites as needed. About the Role You’ll continually provide technical insights to improve and enhance the quality performance of malted barley, whilst driving best value. Tracking of analytical data, with provision of proactive insights, from barley merchants through to malt production and supply. You’ll represent Diageo at malted barley and cereal external trade bodies and organisations, such as the Malt Association for Great Britain (MAGB), to keep updated on current industry thinking and future direction. You’ll undertake internal and external benchmarking exercises to deliver best practice, identify new technical insights to unlock quality and efficiency pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance. You’ll build and sustain working relationships with other functional partners within Malt Distilling (for example process engineering, project engineering, risk & governance, Global audit team, Manufacturing excellence, procurement, laboratory) to deliver holistic solutions to challenges. You’ll work closely with operations to maintain high standards in quality management to ensure all governance & compliance requirements are met (ISO, HACCP, TACCP) maintaining all departmental processes to ensure that outcomes align with a coordinated quality assurance system. You’ll develop and support groundbreaking initiatives in partnership with operations to sustain and improve performance into the future. You’ll proactively benchmark internally and externally to identify new technical insights to unlock performance pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance. You’ll be responsible for participating in continuous learning and development opportunities; within technical or operational environments. About You We’re looking for someone who can work well within a team as well as the ability to make effective decisions and thrive in situations where they can solve problems. You’ll be able to push forward your own ideas about improvements to current approaches and appraise new opportunities. You’ll have the drive to make a positive difference to manufacturing excellence and show your excellent communication skills. You’ll possess a degree-level qualification or equivalent in a related field or qualified through relevant experience. You’re going to be responsible for automated production recording and management reporting systems and so you’ll have proven IT skills. You’ll have a Lean / Six Sigma qualification and or experience (not essential though) You’ll have a full clean driving license for >1 year.
