Job summary Applications are sought for a substantive appointment of a General Surgeon with a Colorectal interest to join an established and successful team of 5 Colorectal surgeons working at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will also be part of a team of 12 consultants for the provision of emergency and elective general surgery, including a sub-specialty interest.We are a Teaching Hospital dedicated to improving medical and surgical education. A proven commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education having held formal teaching roles and a track record of an ongoing commitment will be a requirement. A proven interest in research at MD level or above will also be a requirement for this post. Main duties of the job Our Trust has recently purchased two robotic systems and training in robotic surgery, including relevant courses and experience undertaking robotic colorectal cancer resections will be essential. With West Herts colorectal unit having one of the highest laparoscopic rates in the country training in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery, such as an accredited Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship will also be required. The successful applicant will need to have a significant interest and expertise in complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease surgery and experience of complex IBD surgery. A Fellowship will be desirable. We work closely as a supportive team and joint surgery with training and assistance will be offered to ensure our excellent NBOCA results are maintained. Mentoring will be provided for elective and emergency work to ensure a new consultant has full support to fulfil their potential. We also work closely with our Gastroenterology colleagues and regular Lower GI Endoscopy will be part of the job plan. As such full JAG accreditation will be essential.
