The Director of Solution Engineering is a key leader within Zayo Europe, reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). This position is responsible for driving technical strategy, customer engagement, and business success.
As a trusted advisor to both customers and internal stakeholders, the Director of Solution Engineering plays a pivotal role in defining the technical strategy, enhancing customer engagement, and delivering measurable business outcomes. The role is responsible for shaping innovative, scalable solutions that improve operational efficiency and support Zayo Europe’s strategic objectives.
You will be accountable for defining and executing the strategy for the Solutions Engineering organisation. Responsibilities include leading the development of innovative network and technology solutions, proactively engaging with customers to drive sales outcomes, and continuously developing the team’s capabilities. You will also contribute to Zayo Europe’s broader business transformation, identifying cross-functional improvement opportunities to enhance organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
You will lead a dynamic, high-performing team of approximately 30 technologists, including leaders and individual contributors. The team is comprised of experts in Fibre, Optical and Packet networks and Zayo’s product portfolio, acting as trusted business partners to global customers. Working collaboratively with teams across Sales, Customer Success, Commercial, and Operations, your leadership will ensure cohesive solution delivery and alignment with customer and business priorities.
The role requires strong collaboration with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders. Internally, you will work closely with senior leadership, Sales, Customer Success, Commercial, and Operations teams. Externally, you will partner directly with customers and third-party providers to design and deliver integrated, tailored solutions that address complex business challenges and drive long-term value.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
* Coach, mentor, and develop team members to drive engagement, retention, and performance.
* Maintain high-performing Solution teams.
* Lead a multicultural distributed team across multiple European countries, fostering a cohesive culture and consistent execution across diverse regional markets.
* Define and manage team performance metrics, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
* Set strategy, establish objectives, and lead execution to drive business growth.
* Oversee budget management and resource allocation to optimise team efficiency.
* Continuously improve business processes to enhance solution design speed and accuracy.
* Identify and resolve challenges, removing obstacles to enable team success.
* Handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
* Effectively communicate strategy and drive execution within the team and across Zayo Europe’s cross-functional leadership.
Sales & Customer Engagement
* Apply strategic business acumen to understand customer challenges, goals, and market dynamics.
* Leverage deep expertise in OSI Layer 1-3 networking to guide technical discussions.
* Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to position Zayo Europe effectively.
* Provide expert guidance throughout the sales cycle, from discovery to solution development and closure.
* Build and nurture strong customer relationships, positioning Zayo Europe as a trusted partner.
Qualifications & Expertise
* 7+ years of leadership experience in telecommunications or IT, with a strong background in pre-sales or solution engineering.
* Proven integrity in decision-making and stakeholder interactions.
* Exceptional communication skills — written, verbal, listening, reasoning, and objection handling.
* Proficiency in Google and/or Microsoft business applications.
* Experience in developing and delivering technical training programs.
* Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to change, and lead in a fast-paced environment.
* Technical fluency in networking, including:
o Optical networking
o Routing & switching
o Software-defined networks (SDN)
o Network function virtualization (NFV)
o Network security, load balancing, and high-availability design
* Strong understanding of emerging tech and trends, with the ability to anticipate change and align solutions to be future-ready.
