The Post holder will play an integral part in the development and running of Hackney Education Governance Services, providing expert advice and clerking services to schools
within Hackney and out of the borough. They will also support a vibrant, dedicated team of governance professionals that works mainly flexibly and remotely for clients in Hackney and beyond. For all projects and programmes which fall within the post-holders remit, the post-holder will be expected to act with the support of managers as an end-to-end partner in ensuring strategic and governance excellence.
This role will enable you to gain unique insights into how schools are run at a very high strategic level, and how governance drives school improvement. You will be instrumental in making a difference, upholding the Nolan principles of public life, and supporting strong governance of schools which will lead to changing the life chances of every child in our community and beyond. Hackney Governance Services, which is part of the Hackney Educations School Improvement team, is a well established service with an excellent reputation with our local school leaders, governors community, local authority senior officers and councillors. We provide a high-quality and reliable professional service, offering expert institutional knowledge about governors. Our support, guidance, and tools serve to strengthen school governance. Our work contributes to the improvement of outcomes for children in the borough and drives forward Hackneys key priorities. We help ensure exceptional outcomes that change the life chances for all our children, particularly those most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
Our work is partly statutory, in our duty to Hackney schools, and partly commercially traded to schools within our borough and beyond. The statutory and commercial activities combine to inform our developmental work to improve standards in the full scope of educational settings. With an ever-growing requirement for all educational settings to have for strong and effective governance, Governance Services has become one of the pillars of the success of Hackney Education. This is a hybrid role, and the post-holder will work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. Location wise, the post holder will be expected to work in the office (Hackney Service Centre) when internal events require it, and travel to schools in Hackney and beyond, up to four times a week during term time. School-based time will normally be in order to support governing board meetings. During school holidays, or when governing board meetings take place online, the post holder will be able to work from the office for 2 days a week and from home for 3 days a week. Time-wise, the postholder will be expected to work flexibly, to support governing board meetings that may take place in the mornings (8 am to 10 am) or more commonly evenings (4:30 pm up to 8 pm). Flexible start /finish times and time off in lieu will be in place accordingly.
