We are seeking an experienced Nurse Colposcopist to join our team, working across the St Helier and Leatherhead gynaecology outpatient clinics. As the colposcopy service expands to accommodate the increasing needs of the local population, the postholder will collaborate with the current Nurse Colposcopist and the broader multidisciplinary team to deliver a responsive and compassionate service that adheres to both National and local guidelines and key performance indicators.

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Nurse Colposcopist to join our dynamic Gynaecology team. In this role, you will practice independently as a BSCCP-accredited Nurse Colposcopist, taking on the pivotal role of Colposcopy Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) for the Trust as per Public Health England guidelines. You will lead the Colposcopy nursing service, providing expert care and guidance to women accessing our services while managing and developing a dedicated team of nurses.
You will be responsible for maintaining a cost-effective and high-quality service that aligns with departmental objectives and care group goals. Your duties will include managing a patient caseload within Women’s Services, offering clinical and social support to patients and their families, and fostering the development of evidence-based nursing practices in line with the latest research and guidelines.
Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with medical and nursing staff, the management team, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure the seamless delivery of our Colposcopy Service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice:
• Lead the delivery of an advanced specialist nursing service for women accessing the Colposcopy Service.
• Practice independently as a BSCCP-accredited Nurse Colposcopist.
• Coordinate and contribute to Quality Assurance Inspections in collaboration with colleagues.
• Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals throughout diagnosis and treatment.
• Ensure continuity and a high standard of evidence-based nursing care, assessing health needs and implementing care plans.
• Order and perform diagnostic tests, manage referrals, and oversee patient admissions and discharges according to agreed protocols.
• Maintain a visible presence in clinics, managing your caseload effectively and ensuring all patients have a comprehensive care plan.
• Provide follow-up care, ensuring patients are fully informed to make educated choices about their treatment.
• Lead by example as a role model for best nursing practices, acting as an expert in colposcopy, and offering clinical advice as needed.
• Drive standards of care by developing and improving practices to reflect current professional guidelines and evidence-based recommendations.
• Participate actively in MDT meetings, representing relevant patients and ensuring optimal care delivery.
• Enhance MDT processes and communication to deliver a seamless service.
• Monitor patient pathways for women with suspected cancer, ensuring timely care and cancer target adherence.
• Participate in developing and reviewing clinical protocols and strategies to enhance continuity and standards of colposcopy care.
• Work with the MDT to develop integrated care pathways and systems of documentation.
• Liaise with community, social services, and voluntary organizations to expand services for clients, carers, and health professionals.
• Engage service users for feedback to improve the current service and implement their suggestions.
• Contribute to the development of patient group directions to enhance the discharge process.
• Represent the Trust in relevant forums, both internally and externally, as requested by the Director of Midwifery and the wider MDT.
