The Elders Council of Newcastle is looking for an inspiring leader to join them as their Executive Officer. This is a rare opportunity to take the helm of a small but highly impactful organisation, working with older people to influence policy, improve services, and make Newcastle a truly age-friendly city.
This is an excellent opportunity for a leader ready to make a real difference. They also welcome proposals from individuals or organisations considering a secondment arrangement, providing an opportunity to collaborate with and support the Elders Council during this exciting period of change and transition.
The Elders Council is an organisation of older people working for older people. They are one of only two such organisations England. For over 25 years they have amplified the voices of older adults in Newcastle, ensuring that their insights and aspirations drive positive change. With a small staff team and a dedicated group of volunteers, they tackle ageism and champion active civic engagement in the city.
With an ambitious mission, they use established links to work with Newcastle City Council, local universities, community organisations, and national networks to achieve their goals.
As Executive Officer, you will lead the Elders Council, working closely with Trustees, members, and partners. Key responsibilities include:
* Shaping and delivering the organisations strategic plan.
* Managing all operational matters, including budgets, external contracts, and recruitment.
* Maintaining the service level agreement with Newcastle City Council.
* Developing and overseeing innovative programmes and projects to empower older people.
* Working both with and for members, this being a member-led organisation.
* Building and sustaining relationships with members, funders, partners, and decision-makers.
* Leading fundraising and member-recruitment efforts to secure the sustainability of the organisation.
* Advocating for the diverse needs and aspirations of older people in Newcastle.
This role offers a unique challenge: delivering a bold vision for the citys older residents while balancing significant resource constraints. Youll need to inspire and lead a small team of staff and volunteers, manage competing priorities, and find creative ways to achieve impact.
