We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Youth Worker to join the Paediatric Play & Youth service at Kings.
You will need a Youth Worker qualification and have experience in working with young people in a youth setting post qualification.
The post holder will work with young people on the paediatric wards to deliver regular group and individual activity sessions. You will use evidence-based practice to assess, plan, and evaluate therapeutic interventions.
The post holder is to work with and support young people to meet their individual needs in managing a hospital admission, providing opportunities to understand and navigate around conditions and issues relating to illness and treatment.
You will advocate to ensure the young person's voice is heard and that they are involved in the decision-making process that affects them to develop independence in healthcare management and empower them to take responsibility for themselves and develop confidence.
You should have excellent communication skills, requiring a high degree of empathy, understanding, diplomacy, honesty, integrity, and sensitivity. You will need to have experience of working well within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining confidentiality throughout. You must be able to accurately document all patient interventions on the patient’s electronic notes.
You will need an understanding of the differing needs of patients with additional and special needs.

1. To ensure a high standard of recreation services for young people within the paediatric services.
2. To support young people who access hospital services.
3. To empower young people enabling them to have their voices heard and influence decision-making at various levels.
4. To facilitate a diverse range of personal and social development opportunities and a smooth transition into adult services.
5. To maintain the Youth room as a suitable environment for young people.
