Our client is leading Main Contractor in the North East, specialising in commercial building projects across various sectors. They are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the team. They deliver high-quality construction projects ranging between £6-25 million, working in sectors such as education, healthcare, offices, and retail.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Management: Responsible for managing project costs from initial estimates through to final accounts, ensuring value for money while achieving the required standards and quality.
2. Tendering & Procurement: Prepare and evaluate tender documents, including bills of quantities, and manage procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
3. Contract Management: Review and negotiate contract terms with clients and subcontractors. Ensure all contractual obligations are met, and resolve any contractual disputes as necessary.
4. Valuations & Payments: Prepare and issue interim valuations and final accounts, ensuring timely submission to clients and payment to subcontractors.
5. Budgeting & Forecasting: Track project costs, produce regular budget forecasts, and report on the financial performance of projects.
6. Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks, ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate these risks.
7. Variation Control: Manage variations, ensuring they are accurately priced, recorded, and agreed with clients and subcontractors.
8. Site Visits & Liaison: Regular site visits to ensure progress aligns with cost forecasts, liaising with the project management team, engineers, and architects.
9. Reporting: Provide regular cost reports to senior management, highlighting any issues or areas of concern and proposing potential solutions.
Candidate Requirements
10. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably within a main contractor environment.
11. Strong knowledge of commercial building projects between £6-25 million in value.
12. Familiarity with different forms of contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
13. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
15. A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, or equivalent experience.
16. Membership of a professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable but not essential.
