What you'll do
The role involves working on major projects across the whole Wessex Water region. This is an opportunity to manage all commercial aspects of projects, from initial inception and tender through to the settlement of final accounts.
Typically, you will:
1. manage all aspects of pre and post-contract duties for major projects
2. manage contract change, opportunity and risk, payment applications and final accounts, in addition to carrying out project forecasting and reporting
3. work closely with other team members, such as Project Managers, Designers, Engineers and Estimators, as well as attending regular financial meetings with senior members of staff
4. work to financial targets and deadlines, interpret project programmes, understand risk, and react to the demands of construction delivery to ensure the best value for the company.
What you'll need
As a self-sufficient Quantity Surveyor, you will have previous experience delivering key infrastructure schemes and will have worked within the water industry or a similar industry environment.
To succeed in this role, you should ideally have:
5. quantity surveying experience in the construction industry, preferably with experience in the NEC Suite of Contracts
6. completed a degree in quantity surveying or a similar construction-related qualification
7. membership to the RICS/ICES (desirable but not essential)
8. strong attention to detail, self-motivation, a problem-solving nature and a drive to succeed
9. the ability to interpret technical/design details to assist in problem-solving and valuing engineering options as appropriate
10. experience with change and risk management, as well as tender and final account negotiation skills
11. good people skills, including leadership skills and the ability to foster professional relations with others
12. a strong customer focus, while also being a team player
13. a sound knowledge of health and safety related to the role.
