Who You Are You are a skilled and dedicated Commercial Vehicle Technician with a Level 3 qualification, tasked with supporting the Workshop Manager in maintaining the council's vehicle fleet. Your comprehensive expertise in heavy motor vehicle maintenance, vehicle inspection, and MoT testing is essential to keep the fleet roadworthy and compliant with relevant regulations. You possess a strong understanding of health and safety practices, and your role demands high levels of autonomy, discipline, and operational excellence. What the Job Involves Your role involves the maintenance, inspection, and repair of the council’s fleet vehicles, plant equipment, and third-party vehicles. As a designated VOSA MoT Station Nominated Tester, you ensure vehicles meet safety standards through Class 4, 5, and 7 MoT tests. You manage workshop administration, provide roadside assistance, estimate repair costs, identify necessary replacement parts, and maintain records in compliance with the council’s procedures. Additionally, you foster teamwork, adhere to health and safety standards, and support management in achieving performance targets and compliance with legal obligations. Skills NVQ 3 Heavy Motor Vehicle qualification or equivalent Qualified Commercial Vehicle Inspector (VOSA accreditation) Nominated Tester for MoT Class 4 to 7 testing Current vocational LGV Category C driving license (HGV 2) Forklift driving license Proficiency in IT systems, including Excel, Word, and Outlook Intermediate welding skills and motor vehicle electrical skills Experience in transport workshop environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong knowledge of health and safety protocols Ability to work split shifts and standby cover on a rota basis
