We are excited to be able to offer vacancies for Band 5 Nurses to join our highly regarded team at Basildon Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit.
The NICU at Basildon is a level 2 unit with capacity of 19 cots, 3 of which are intensive care, 5 high dependency and 11 special care. We also have a transitional care with a capacity of 4 beds.
The unit is superbly equipped and resourced to care for sick and premature babies born at the hospital and in the local area, and also provides excellent facilities for parents and carers.
The role will give you the privileged position to be able to make a difference in the lives of precious new born babies and their families.
You will have supervised time within the unit to gain the experience you need to care for the babies and you will work through competencies in Special Care and High Dependency that will give you the background to undertake the Neonatal Course, to enable you to care for babies requiring the highest level of support in Intensive Care.
Basildon Hospital is part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and part of the East of England Operational Delivery Network, the three NICUs in the MSE are forging strong working relationships sharing knowledge and experience and providing excellent care.
Main duties of the job
1. Work within, and support the team and senior management to meet the needs of the service.
2. Provide highly skilled, evidence based individualised care for Special Care Infants and their families.
3. With appropriate support/training/competence provide highly skilled, evidence-based individualised care for Intensive and High Dependency Care Infants..
4. Initiate, evaluate and maintain a high standard of care, ensuring it is evidence based and compliant with best practice recommendations and local/national policies and guidelines for neonatal care.
5. Ensure that care is family centered, sensitive and responsive to the needs of the infant and their family. Work in partnership with the family to deliver this care.
6. Evaluate and respond appropriately to changes in patient needs, escalating all concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
7. to supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate.
