The education arm of the Royal Society for Blind Children, Dorton College of Further Education, seeks an experienced, values-led and operationally-focused leader to support its future success.
Who we are
Dorton College of Further Education is an independent specialist college based in Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley. It is the educational arm of the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC) charity. Using our Orpington site as the focal point for our delivery, we offer day provision for vision impaired 16-25-year-olds, many of whom have additional needs, whilst partnering with a range of mainstream providers to give blind and vision impaired (VI) young people the opportunity to achieve their ambitions. This is an exciting time for the charity and especially for our education team, who continue to support our students to achieve fantastic outcomes. Developments within our team, caused by both our success and our future ambitions, mean we now seek an experienced, values-led and operationally-focused leader to join us as our new Principal.
About the role
Our new Principal will lead Dorton College, overseeing all key functions to ensure high-quality education for every student. You will shape the curriculum, manage finances to secure and grow funding, and safeguard resources for efficient and innovative learning. You will lead efforts to sustain strong relationships with our partners’ colleges whilst overseeing activities that continue to build our reputation across London and the South East. Working closely with the team, you will identify new opportunities to expand partnerships and provision while engaging with the Board of Governors and contributing to the broader work of RSBC.
Who we are looking for
Our new Principal will be an experienced senior leader with a strong background in SEND, ideally within a VI setting. Whether from a specialist post-16 education environment or a mainstream setting with responsibility for supporting young people with additional needs, you will bring deep knowledge of specialist provision, sector challenges, and emerging opportunities. You’ll thrive in a dynamic environment, embracing flexibility and pace to drive our ambitious growth plans. As a values-led, empathetic leader, you’ll inspire and support our staff across multiple sites, fostering a sense of care and connection. With credibility as a sector expert, you’ll strengthen partnerships to ensure young people have the opportunities they need to thrive. Above all, you’ll advocate passionately for our students and their families, helping them overcome barriers and lead fulfilling, independent lives.
Peridot Partners and the Royal Society for Blind Children are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Wednesday 5th March.
