What is the job? This position is for a Tables BU Buyer on a fixed term contract for 3 months. You will be responsible for certain Units of our Business Unit, concentrating on those key areas in production and the relevant suppliers to those Units. By having regular interaction with these Units and their colleagues that are responsible for them, will create a greater understanding of their daily requirements. Working Hours: Monday to Fridays 8am – 4.30pm What is essential to us… · GCSE, A-Level, NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience or qualifications. · Experience in purchasing of engineering components and materials in a busy and creative environment. · Experience in logistics and purchasing, preferably engineering but not essential · Negotiating skills which will continue to build while in post. · Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, professional telephone manner is vital. · Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications · Working collaboratively with colleagues to complete daily work. · Receptive to new challenges and expanding current knowledge. Requirements What we would like you to do/ to see… Materials purchasing · Manage and continuously review the Purchase Order System (MRP) · Maintain and review BU blanket order requirements · Identify and procure Kanban products to support their product group requirements · Procure consumable items to maintain steady production flow · Timely and effective communication of purchase orders to suppliers Order progressing · Progressing late deliveries from suppliers on a daily / weekly basis depending on product type · Reviewing the critical on hand report to identify potential shortages · Check and authorise designated invoices for stock, packaging items Inventory control · Managing and reviewing minimum stock levels to keep inventory cost to a minimum whilst being able to maintain the production demand Reviewing supplier lead times to make sure accurate stock calculation can be achieved · Checking minimum batch quantity’s from suppliers · Continually reviewing stock warehouse locations to minimise duplicate ordering · Work with inventory control to identify and rectify stock errors and investigate accordingly Vendor management · Driving ongoing supplier performance working closely with Thorlabs quality department Support supplier selection process when required What will you get?
