Job summary
We are seeking a full time Ward Manager to join our Mixed Acute Ward here at the Bristol Priory Hospital.
Main duties of the job
This is a 10 bedded mixed gender adult acute ward.
We support NHS patients from across the country when in times of crisis. We admit people with mental health illnesses predominantly psychosis, depression, Personality Disorders and other diagnoses. Our usual length of stay runs from a few days to months and we support patients to return to their own communities with help from their home teams. We work as a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, healthcare assistants, speciality doctor, consultant, psychologist and occupation therapy in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Priory Hospital Bristol is part of the Healthcare Division of Priory Group and has 77 beds over eight wards varying from Eating Disorders, Acute Mental Health, Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care, Huntingdon's and Dementia.

Job responsibilities
1. Has full oversight of the nursing staff rota and is the authorized individual to ensure rota management and e rostering standards are maintained and are effective. Will be required to be available for On Call Rota.
2. Acts as a highly visible role model, mentor and leader, creating a culture that promotes learning, development, inquiry and professionalism, celebrates achievements and shares learning to the benefit of the ward, hospital and wider division.
3. Takes appropriate action to ensure that the standard of care that patients receive is of the highest standard.
4. Actively lead on the recruitment and retention of staff to the ward and hospital.
5. Undertakes and completes clinical investigations, complaints, and HR investigations, ensuring these are completed thoroughly, promptly and to a high standard.
6. Ensures that the legislative frameworks regarding the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties is applied in accordance with Company Policy, and National Requirements.
7. Is responsible for Medicines Management in their Clinical Area or Ward, and ensures that all Registered Nurses undergo competency based assessments as part of their induction and facilitates an open and transparent framework for managing medicine errors.
Essential skills and requirements
Be currently registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council as a first level nurse or with the Health and Care Professions Council
At least 2 years experience in a supervisory capacity within a relevant care setting.
Appropriate registration or experience required for the ward
Willingness to complete further clinical, managerial and leadership training and development relevant to your area of practice in management and leadership.
