Clinical Psychologist – Band 8a (1.0 WTE). (We will consider applications from candidates who would prefer to work reduced hours and those who are newly qualified and would like to come in on a preceptorship, Band 7-8a)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical psychologist to work within our Community Dementia and Older Adult Mental Health Team.The service offers assessment for people with a suspected diagnosis of dementia and bio-psychosocial interventions for people with dementia and their families. The newly formed Older Adult Mental Health team offers specialist assessment and interventions for older people with complex mental health difficulties. The service is delivered by a strong and supportive multi-disciplinary team comprising of professionals from a range of backgrounds including Community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists and Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners.It’s a great place to learn and develop, either as a senior Clinical Psychologist or a newly qualified looking to develop. The role is diverse, stimulating, and thought-provoking.
The post holder will carry out psychological assessments (including neuro-psychological assessments), deliver specialist psychological interventions and provide supervision to junior members of Psychology Staff including Assistant Psychologists, Mental Health & Well-being Practitioners and Trainee Clinical Psychologists. The post holder will often be required to work alongside colleagues from other agencies including Care Homes, Primary Care, Social Care, Physical Health, Voluntary Sector partners and the wider secondary mental health services. The post holder will have access to supervision from a Principal Clinical Psychologist and line management from a senior nursing colleague. They will be offered training and CPD opportunities within the mental health trust.
The post holder will be employed by the mental health directorate of CWPT. There will be support, supervision and opportunities to integrate into the wider mental health service. You will be joining a thriving community of clinical and counselling psychologists, psychological therapists and psychotherapists as well as friendly and supportive colleagues from the wider MDT.

You will ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to older people and people with dementia and their families, across the memory assessment, community dementia and older adult mental health pathways.
Your role will include provision of specialist psychological assessments (including neuropsychological assessments) of people with complex presentations
You will be required to offer psychological interventions, adapted to meet the needs of our client group.
You will provide psychological interventions to support with the care of people that demonstrate behaviours that indicate distress.
You will offer psychological formulations within a team setting.
You will offer supervision to junior members of our Psychology Team, including Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Mental Health Well-being Practitioners
You will offer training to MDT colleagues and support with service evaluations and audits.
The post holder will have access to supervision from a Principal Clinical Psychologist. They will be offered training and CPD opportunities within the mental health trust.
