As Power Infrastructure Development Manager (m/f/d), you will be joining a team that secures and successfully delivers power infrastructure, a key component of our data center business. The mission of the team is to ensure power is secured on time, within budget, and with sufficient capacity.
The objectives of the team are to:
1. Manage and leverage commercial risk on all activities related to power infrastructure.
2. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements of power connection.
The role belongs to the Global Infrastructure Division (GID) and is part of building the EMEA Front End Planning Team as a Development Manager of Power Infrastructure (m/f/d) for new and existing facilities. The scope focuses on HV/MV power connections and involves securing power capacity through connection agreements, managing timely delivery of required infrastructure from the point of connection to site.
What you will do
1. Manage electrical utility, project management consultants, right of way (easements), substation contractors, and owner's engineers for transmission works & substations to deliver end-to-end HV/MV power infrastructure on time, on budget, and to specifications.
2. Manage and coordinate with internal stakeholders including Planning, Real Estate, Design, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Finance & Commissioning teams.
3. Investment Tasks:
1. Study, understand, and have a view on regional power infrastructure network and utility planning and changes to the broader power infrastructure.
2. Undertake power due diligence for new or proposed data center sites to check power availability and feasibility.
4. Managing agreements:
1. Entering into connection agreements; contracting the right capacity.
5. Development Tasks:
1. Develop and execute strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce costs.
2. Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to power infrastructure.
3. Report on key project risks & issues at senior management level.
4. Work with utility providers to deliver HV/MV substations including external HV/MV supply lines.
5. Lead the management of the electrical HV primary and secondary systems through the entire project delivery period.
6. Review technical design and specifications.
7. Manage design consultants, contractors, and partners as crucial relationships.
8. Use your design knowledge to ensure all lessons learned are captured for subsequent delivery phases.
9. Review contractor pre-qualifications and advise on best practices.
10. Ensure Health and Safety is prioritized on site.
11. Manage commissioning protocols throughout the project life cycle.
12. Review and manage the engineering documentation.
What we are looking for
1. Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field.
2. 5+ years of experience working in utility/renewables/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.
3. An excellent communicator in German & English (spoken & written); other languages would be an advantage.
4. Experience in budgeting and analyzing cost/benefit trade-offs across a strategic portfolio.
5. Sound understanding of different Electrical Bus bar schemes and Substation layouts.
6. Experience developing and delivering Medium Voltage and High Voltage electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role.
7. Experience reviewing energy projects and contracts with utilities, contractors, and internal stakeholders including Engineering, Construction, Finance, Legal, Security, Operations, Commissioning, etc.
8. Experience planning, engineering, developing, or constructing substations.
9. Experience permitting, planning, engineering, developing, or constructing transmission lines.
10. Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc.
11. Good understanding of project management and stakeholder management.
12. MS Office (particularly Excel power user).
13. Ability to manage and maintain large volumes of data, perform analyses that provide insight into data collection and transformation.
14. Demonstrated ability to operate and thrive with partial information and high levels of ambiguity.
15. Possess strong organizational, communication, and team-building skills. Must build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
16. Ability to self-start and self-motivate in a dynamic environment.
17. Professional experience in the power & energy/data center industry desirable.
18. Appreciation of commercial and technical context, as well as good knowledge of grid development management processes.
19. An interest in renewable energy, batteries, smart grids, etc., and other innovations in power systems.
20. Team player with a high degree of reliability, precision, and diligence.
21. Able to work effectively and autonomously with limited support.
22. Must demonstrate a hands-on and can-do attitude and work with a value-added and open mindset.
23. The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
24. For the UK: To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2019.
