Meet the team The Litigation and Restructuring team has a long-standing experience of working with an enviable selection of banks, asset based lenders and insolvency practitioners. We are regularly instructed by the “big 4” accountants as well as the mid-tier and boutique firms. Our specialist national team combines all round expertise with a sound understanding of the commercial landscape to provide exceptional solutions for every aspect of our clients’ corporate requirements. The team is recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500. We provide advice on all aspects of transactional/advisory insolvency work to insolvency practitioners and lenders together with a wide-ranging contentious offering. In the West Midlands, we have a solid reputation for corporate-side advice in turnaround situations and distressed investment scenarios. We are implementing a strategy to earn the same reputation in the London and South East markets and this position is to support that strategy. We exploit our sector expertise within the firm including banking and financial services, construction, education and energy to ensure that real value is added to assignments undertaken by the team. What You Will Be Doing We currently have a new and exciting opportunity for a Restructuring and Insolvency Associate to join our growing team to be based from our Southampton hub. Working alongside a highly experienced Partner and a team of Senior Lawyers nationally, you will provide assistance on a broad range of recovery matters and insolvency. You will act for lenders and insolvency practitioners to provide fast, pragmatic and commercial advice. You’ll be working closely with businesses, directors and individuals facing financial difficulties and running cases efficiently and cost-effectively within strict service level agreements. What You Will Need Skills and experience: Non-contentious insolvency work experience, including: Advising on business sales from distressed situations. General advisory work for lenders and insolvency practitioners on a range of insolvency scenarios. Drafting reviews on security instruments and restructuring solutions. Contentious insolvency work experience, including: Advising on antecedent transactions and directors’ conduct. Handling court applications such as administration extensions, possession orders, and sales. Managing bankruptcy and winding-up petitions, including preparation for and attendance at hearings. Strong drafting skills, including court documents, Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA), letters of advice, statements, court applications, client advice and briefs to counsel. A solid understanding of business development, with a desire to support marketing efforts and contribute to team growth. 3-6 years’ experience in a similar role, with both contentious and non-contentious insolvency work. Proven expertise in restructuring solutions, including AMA processes and advising on distressed business sales. Strong legal analytical skills and the ability to find practical, innovative solutions. Strong advocacy and communication skills for representing clients in court proceedings. Proven business development track record, with an interest in contributing to marketing and profile-raising activities. Key Competencies Commercial approach to property as a security asset. Personable with a wide client base experience. Ability to work in a high-pressure, demanding environment with excellent organizational skills. Willingness to attend networking events and support the team’s marketing efforts. A high degree of initiative and ability to prioritize effectively.
