Required from: 1st September 2025
Hours: Part-Time (0.5 FTE, ideally spanning across four days)
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, dedicated and experienced Psychology teacher to play a pivotal role in managing a small, yet highly successful Psychology department at Oxford High School, a leading independent day school with exceptional academic results and excellent facilities.
All teachers at Oxford High School are involved in the delivery of pastoral care as form tutors and are expected to make contributions to both the co- and extra- curricular life of the school.
In this role you will be teaching across the age range 16-18, equipping students for A levels and beyond, ensuring they are well prepared to progress and continue their studies, which includes reading Psychology at top universities. Although Psychology is not formally taught until the Sixth Form at Oxford High School, informing and interesting younger students in Psychology is also a key aim of the department.
We are an innovative department that thrives on the investigative and experimental approach to inspire our students beyond the confines of the course. Considerable emphasis is put on the skills needed to be a good psychologist and scientist, including the ability to be critical about research methods, evaluate findings and consider the implications of research. Utilising your resources efficiently and effectively, you will also ensure the curriculum is managed and developed in accordance with school policy across the department.
We offer a whole range of enrichment activities, from competitions, clubs, and lectures from outside speakers, which all resonate with our genuine passion for this subject.
If you are a well-qualified graduate with QTS or an individual with equivalent qualifications and experience, we would be delighted to hear from you. In return we can provide a friendly and welcoming work environment, students who are spirited, enthusiastic and passionate about learning, a competitive salary and career development opportunities.
The Department:
Psychology is a small department at OHS where the Head of Department is also the sole teacher in this subject. However, there is huge potential for collaboration with other departments. Sixth form students studying other A level subjects often attend Psychology extra-curricular events and are encouraged to explore topics related to Psychology in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
The successful applicant will be keen to build on these events and the links between Psychology and other subjects.
Psychology is taught in a designated, state-of-the art sixth form centre. You will share a working office with the Head of Economics and Politics.
The specification that we currently follow at Oxford High School is with AQA, and divided as follows:
Paper 1: 'Introductory Topics'
Paper 2: 'Psychology in Context'
Paper 3: 'Issues and Options in Psychology'
In addition, OHS Psychology students are asked to undertake a small-scale research project to refine their research skills.
