Position Summary:
The Project Based Lead STEM Teacher has excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; connects with, mentors, and coaches other teachers on STEM lessons, projects, and activities. The teacher will creatively and energetically lead and co-facilitate major cohort activities, such as opening and closing ceremonies, parent/student orientation, parent trainings, Robotics, and the STEM Carnival. Under the direct supervision of the School of Engineering Assistant Dean for Student Success, the Project Based Lead STEM Teacher will join the University of the Pacific’s & Stockton Unified School District’s collaboration to implement the Reach for the Stars STEM Academy (RFTSSA) for the summer of 2025 on the Stockton University of the Pacific campus.
* Program service areas and location: The RFTSSA serves students in the Stockton Unified School District. This academy will be held in person on the Stockton Campus.
* Academy Overview: Our STEM academies are academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment programs designed for students who lack access to resources that would enable them to accelerate their learning and move into college preparatory coursework in high school.
* Academic goals: Develop and enhance skills in abstract & critical reasoning, problem-solving, study techniques, and technological skills.
* Life goals: Help students develop leadership skills and increase self-esteem/confidence via real-life applications.
* Student Profile - RFTSSA: Student participation is based on academic criteria, starting recruitment with current 6th graders.
* Program Design: Introduces students to progressively challenging STEM concepts over six summers.
The Project Based Lead STEM Teacher will also work closely with the Project Based STEM Coordinator to build, expand, and improve the academy program delivery. Responsibilities include teaching various STEM introductory themed core topics to different grade cohorts and collaborating with other teachers and assistants.
Essential Functions:
* Model effective strategies for integrating Common Core and STEM education.
* Design and develop engaging STEM curriculum aligned with state standards.
* Deliver high-quality instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies.
* Facilitate hands-on experiments and projects.
* Provide guidance and support to students during activities.
* Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
* Implement effective assessment strategies.
* Identify individual student needs and provide differentiated instruction.
* Teach and facilitate research-based best practices.
* Conduct observations of teachers and provide constructive feedback.
* Maintain regular positive attendance and professional appearance.
* Verify completion of required trainings within the first week of hire.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Master’s Degree, Administrative Credential, & valid Multiple Subject Credential, or Single Subject Mathematics or Science teaching credential, or STEM Degree/certification.
* Ten (10) years minimum of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring teachers.
* Ability to work successfully with diverse populations.
Physical Requirements: Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using a computer. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in both office and academic environments.
Hiring Range: $67.00/hour.
