We are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier or Account Assistant to join our team of Licensed Conveyancers. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial transactions of our conveyancing practice, ensuring compliance with the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) Accounts Rules and other related regulations.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Process client payments and receipts.
2. Handle CHAPS, BACS, and cheque transactions.
3. Manage office account transactions, including staff expenses and supplier payments.
4. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
5. Ensure all transactions comply with the CLC Accounts Rules and Money Laundering Regulations.
6. Prepare and submit reports for internal management, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required, including assisting with month-end closing procedures.
7. Liaise with banks, auditors, and other external parties as necessary.
8. Liaise with conveyancing teams to resolve any discrepancies or queries related to payments.
9. Manage nominal ledger transactions.
10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records on our accounting software and ensure all financial documentation is properly filed and stored.
11. Manage client ledgers, ensuring funds are correctly allocated and reported.
12. Handle reserve account management, including interest calculations where applicable.
13. Assist with billing and invoice preparation.
14. Provide support to fee earners and other staff on financial queries.
Experience
1. Proven experience as a Legal Cashier or in a similar role within a legal environment.
2. Familiarity with conveyancing transactions is highly desirable.
3. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Skills
1. Strong understanding of the SRA / CLC Accounts Rules.
2. Proficiency in legal accounting software (e.g., Proclaim, LEAP, Quill, or similar systems).
3. Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
4. High attention to detail and accuracy.
5. ILFM or equivalent qualification is preferred but not mandatory if experience is substantial.

Experience:
1. Accounting: 2 years (required).
