Turning dreams into reality is their business!
They are seeking a talented and driven Composite Structural Design Engineer to join their dynamic team to contribute to the development of next-generation composite structures for all of their boat-building projects.
Job Overview:
As a Composite Structural Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing composite structures within the marine industry, with a specific focus on boat building and naval architecture.
You will work closely with the design and engineering teams to develop structural solutions that balance performance, weight, durability, and cost-efficiency.
Your expertise will ensure the delivery of high-quality composite structures that meet safety standards, customer requirements, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Composite Structural Design: Design and develop composite materials and structures for marine vessels, ensuring they meet the technical specifications and performance requirements for strength, stiffness, and weight.
* Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Perform advanced structural analyses using FEA and other engineering tools to validate and optimize composite structures, ensuring compliance with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
* Material Selection: Select appropriate composite materials (e.g., fiberglass, carbon fiber, aramid) based on performance, cost, and manufacturing capabilities.
* Prototyping and Testing: Collaborate with the testing and prototyping teams to ensure that designs are validated under real-world conditions, ensuring that composite structures perform as expected.
* Manufacturing Support: Work closely with the production team to ensure the successful transfer of designs into production. Provide engineering support during the manufacturing process to address any design-related issues that may arise.
* Technical Documentation: Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and reports for design solutions, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
* Collaboration: Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate composite structures into the overall design of the vessel.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with international marine regulations and industry standards, including ABS, Lloyd’s Register, and ISO standards.
* Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in composite materials, manufacturing techniques, and industry best practices to continuously improve design processes and outcomes.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
* Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in composite design and engineering, preferably within the marine industry or boat building sector.
* Strong knowledge of composite materials (e.g., fiberglass, carbon fiber, epoxy, etc.) and their applications in marine structures.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN).
* Familiarity with marine design standards and regulations (ABS, Lloyd’s, ISO, etc.).
* Experience in manufacturing processes for composites, including lamination, infusion, and vacuum bagging.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to design efficient, safe, and cost-effective solutions.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
* Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
* Experience with composite repair techniques for marine structures.
* Knowledge of hydrodynamics and their impact on composite structural design.
* Previous experience in the design of high-performance yachts, commercial vessels, or military boats.
* Familiarity with 3D modelling and simulation for composite structures.
* Why Join this client:
o Opportunity to work on cutting-edge marine projects with a focus on innovation and quality.
o Collaborate with a talented and passionate team of engineers and designers.
o Competitive salary and benefits package.
o A dynamic, fast-paced work environment where creativity and technical expertise are valued.
