General Function
The Entry Level Swim Instructor shadows and assists with instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
* At minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
* CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen from Red Cross
* Obtains YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent at first certification course offered by YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit after hire.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Shadows and prepares swimming lessons according to the YMCA guidelines
* Builds authentic relationships with students and parents
* Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate
* Maintains records as required and attends staff meetings and trainings
* Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills
* Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
* Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
