The Specialist Midwife in Public Health will provide visible leadership and evidence based information and education to women and their families, and health professionals, in line with East Sussex Healthcare Trust (ESHT) policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current public health guidance.
The post holder will work in partnership with service users, the multidisciplinary team and local stakeholders to improve and protect health and wellbeing, and improve the health of the poorest families (Department of Health 2013).
Main duties of the job
Key work will focus upon improving outcomes of women with modifiable risk factors such as obesity, smoking, reducing the interpregnancy interval, and developing and implementing processes to secure a year on year increase in uptake of immunization.
It is anticipated that the post holder will possess the requisite skills and abilities to be the care coordinator for a group of women with the most complex health needs. Improvements in the modifiable factors of health for women during pregnancy will impact positively on the wider health community. The post holder will represent ESHT at local, regional and national level when appropriate, influencing service development in relation to public health.
The post holder will work closely with the Senior Clinical Midwifery Management Team to further develop related pathways and guidelines to assure appropriate and responsive care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nursing & Midwifery Qualification and eligible to practice
* Relevant postgraduate qualification or management experience to postgraduate level
* Degree or Master's Degree or equivalent years of experience with a Public Health focus
* Recognised Leadership training or experience
* Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA)
Experience
* Knowledge of the National Maternity Agenda and the 5 year forward vision for 'Better Births'
* Evidence of having developed new initiatives, including multi professional working
* Evidence of Advanced midwifery practitioner status
* Experience of managing services, including finance business and human resources
Skills
* Developed leadership skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve staff to meet challenging targets including individuals and teams in partnership organisations
* Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and/or working knowledge of financial processes
