Applied Sciences £31,666 - £38,342 per annum Fixed term for 2 years 37 hours per week This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in Natural Product Pharmacology to join the Drugs from Nature Targeting Inflammation Research Group within the Department of Pharmacy on an industry-funded natural product discovery and development project. The multidisciplinary project will involve pharmacological and phytochemical studies on natural products. The role will involve the use of mammalian cell culture, biochemical assays and the use of phytochemical techniques to analyse chemical markers to achieve project objectives. The role will be based in the Department of Pharmacy, which is part of the School of Applied Sciences. The School of Applied Sciences provides a vibrant research, teaching, learning environment for students and staff encompassing other Departments like Physical and Life Sciences and Optometry. Researchers in the School are internationally recognised for their research with a track record of attracting external funding from the UKRI, Charities and industry. As a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Natural Product Pharmacology, you will be an early career researcher with a passion for using multidisciplinary approaches to conduct research into the pharmacological activities of both herbal medicinal products and their bioactive constituents. You will contribute to the activities of a multidisciplinary research team through design and execution of experiments, data management, laboratory management and supervision of postgraduate researchers. You will be expected to participate in other research-related activities towards meeting project milestones. You will hold a PhD degree in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Phytochemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry. Proven experience of mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays, phytochemical analyses (HPLC, LC-MS and NMR) are essential to this role.
