St George’s School, Ascot has a unique and exciting opportunity to help shape the future of young athletes. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Performance Swimming Coach to lead our new Performance Swimming Scholarship Programme.
The Coach will play the lead role in mentoring and developing athletes aged 11-18 both in and out of the pool, providing them with the training, guidance and support needed to excel in competitive swimming.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing training plans and analysing performance, thus ensuring swimmers are well-prepared to compete at a high level and achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
Coaching and Training:
* Lead and implement a weekly programme of swim training for swimmers at a county level, potentially higher.
* Design and deliver training programmes based on swimmers’ needs, abilities, and goals.
* Develop techniques for improving swimmers’ strength, endurance, stroke mechanics, and mental preparation.
* Use performance tools to provide feedback and enhance training efficiency.
* Monitor swimmers' physical conditioning, working alongside the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Athlete Development and Selection:
* Work with the Head of Swimming, Marketing and Admissions to scout and publicise the programme.
* Provide consistent feedback to swimmers on performance.
* Work closely with swimmers to set goals.
* Monitor progress, performance, and personal development.
* Foster a positive and disciplined environment for swimmers.
Competition Preparation:
* Work with the Head of Swimming and Director of Sport to identify competitive swimming events.
* Prepare athletes for competitions, ensuring they are competition-ready.
* Develop race plans and assist swimmers in refining their approach to competition.
* Enter swimmers into and attend all swim meets.
Collaboration and Communication:
* Work closely with the Head of Swimming, Director of Sport and other coaching staff.
* Maintain open communication with swimmers, parents, and club administration.
* Collaborate with the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
* Support the Head of Swimming in preparing reports on athletes.
Safety and Compliance:
* Ensure safety protocols are followed during practices and meets.
* Stay informed on current trends in swimming and coaching.
* Work with the Head of Swimming to ensure all performance athletes are members of Swim England and St George's Ascot School Swimming Club (SGASC).
* Ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Person Specification
Experience:
* Proven experience as a Performance Swimming Coach.
* Knowledge of competitive swimming techniques and training methodologies.
* Certifications:
o ASA Level 2 Award (QCF) in Coaching Swimming or Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate.
o NRASTC or CPR/First Aid certifications preferred.
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Experience in coaching at a high-performance level.
* Strong knowledge of strength and conditioning for swimmers.
* Familiarity with athlete mental conditioning.
* Familiarity with Team Manager software.

The start date for this role will be 29 August 2025 or by agreement with the successful candidate.
The salary for this role will be in the region of £15,000, which equates to a FTE of £43,500 per annum (subject to experience and exact hours worked).
The successful candidate will be required to work around 15 hours per week, term time only, plus 2 - 3 weeks in the holidays for competitions outside of term time (35/36 weeks in total).
