Base salary: £40,750pa to c.£50,950pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As Project Engineer – Comms, you'll be responsible for:
1. Providing technical assurance, as per the HS2 assurance requirements, through production, checking and submission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates;
2. Assuring that the design and construction of assets comply with the technical and sponsor requirements and applicable standards, specifications and procedures by supporting planned Technical Assurance Reviews and “spot-checks” of Contractor’s deliverables;
3. Supporting the Lead Project Engineer Comms in discharging their duties of NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative as mandated within the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015;
4. Communicating the HS2 Engineering requirements to the Comms and EMS contractors and providing responses to technical queries;
5. Providing guidance on design solutions for the asset, promoting use of best practice and innovative engineering techniques, technologies and processes, driving consistency and identifying opportunities for efficiencies;
6. Working alongside other technical specialists to develop appropriate and cost-balanced mitigation strategies and solutions, contributing to successful system integration;
7. Actively promoting and embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work.
About You:
Skills:
1. Complex problem solving – Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
2. Decision Making – Able to gather and synthesise information, identifying options and applying sound judgement based on logic and reason.
3. Technical Leadership - Specialist technical support and leadership on at least one discipline-specific scientific, technical or engineering principles.
4. Technical Communication - Able to communicate a range of technical ideas in at least one discipline-specific area to colleagues.
5. Information Management – Able to apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security.
Knowledge:
1. Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements.
2. Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2.
3. Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets.
4. Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards with equivalent experience.
Type of experience:
1. Experience in managing standards, engineering and safety activity on engineering projects/programmes.
2. Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications.
