Apple Recruitment are recruiting for a Band 3 Maintenance Assistant on behalf of our client the NHSCT, Antrim
Hourly Rate: £12.45, in addition holiday hours accrued and paid
Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm, 37 ½ hrs each week
Duration: 3 months then reviewed
Location: Antrim

Role:
Responsible for the provision of an effective maintenance service, including the transportation of personnel, materials and equipment.
Criteria:
5 years relevant experience in all aspects of building maintenance to include repairs to flags, roadways, kerbs and grounds.
Plaster repairs and patching prior to decoration.
Wall and floor tile repairs.
Underground drainage clearing and repairs.
Flooring, glazing and ceiling tile repairs
Gritting and snow clearing.
Power washing
Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Occasional requirements to work overtime/shift/nights.
If required participate in providing an on call system in accordance with the locally negotiated agreement.
Duties:
* Carry out the duties of general upkeep of hospital and other Health Care buildings, including the cutting of lawns, grass areas, hedges etc, with various types of mechanical equipment, also brushing and collecting waste materials from all grounds, car parks, roads, footpath etc.
* Checking and releasing blocked underground drainage systems, manholes and gullies, cleaning of overhead gutters and associated pipework.
* Driving of Estate Service vehicles and trailers for the delivery and collection of materials, equipment or personnel (training provided).
* Assist other trades, both engineering and building, in the carrying out of their duties. Eg opening up for inspections or repairs, cutting tracks, coring holes for the installation of services etc.
* Carry out plaster patching and other minor building repairs.
* Carry out tiling work in relation to wall and floor tiles including the repair or replacement of same.
* Carry out repairs to flagged, concrete and tarmac pathways, kerbing and pipelines.
* Be capable of working at a reasonable height above ground level.
* Assist in the off-loading of materials for use by Estate Services using mechanical and non-mechanical means.
* Carry out gritting and snow clearance duties including use of snow clearance equipment and PPMS checks.
* Carry out the duties of a building labourer in relation to all types of construction works.
* Work as an integral part of a maintenance team and have a basic knowledge of building maintenance.
* Be able to work on his/her own, on occasions, with minimum of supervision.
* Carry out his / her duties to an acceptable standard.
* Undertake training when necessary to keep up to date with current trends in the construction industry and hospital environment, so as to be compliant with current supervision.
* Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Health and Safety practices and in particular in the use of materials (including hazardous materials) and COSHH Regulations.
* Observe Statutory and other relevant requirements, in particular those relating to Health and safety.
* Participate in overtime to meet the needs of the service.
* Maintain and effectively use ladders, scaffolds, steps and notify line manager of any defects on the aforementioned equipment. Attend training on MEWPs and other types of powered access equipment. (training provided)
* Participate in the Labour Management System.
* If required participate in the provision of an on-call system in accordance with locally negotiated agreement.
* Participate in the Trust’s KSF Appraisals.
* Other duties as may be determined in accordance with the grading and responsibilities of the post.
* Planned preventative maintenance including but not limited to van checks, workshop cleans, power washing and external cleaning.
* Preparation of surfaces prior to painting and decorating.
* Making safe damaged flooring and glazing and replacing ceiling tiles.
* Erecting safety barriers and fencing around as directed.
* Use of PDA for record keeping and site surveys / PPMS.
