Role Overview
As a 3rd Line Network & Security Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expert-level support and troubleshooting for managed hardware, including Firewalls, Routers, Switches, and Access Points. You will work closely with customers, business partners, and internal teams to resolve complex technical issues while delivering a first-class customer experience.
Location: Hybrid - Hemel/Leeds
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday-Friday, with some evenings, weekends & on-call duties
Key Responsibilities
1. Take ownership of 3rd line escalated tickets and ensure resolution.
2. Assist and support 1st and 2nd line technical support teams with complex incidents.
3. Perform pre-installation configuration and testing of network solutions.
4. Provide remote support to on-site engineers for troubleshooting and verification.
5. Work closely with clients and business partners to address technical challenges.
6. Monitor network health and security metrics to ensure optimal performance.
7. Mentor and support second-line engineers.
8. Participate in on-call support rotations.
9. Assist in technical pre-sales by contributing to solution designs.
10. Update and maintain security and network documentation.
11. Collaborate with suppliers for fault resolution.
12. Ensure compliance with ITIL procedures and best practices.
Key Skills & Experience Required
1. Hands-on experience troubleshooting Firewalls (Firepower, Fortigate).
2. Strong knowledge of Firewall functions and operations (proxy, NAT, stateful inspection, IPSEC, SSL, URL filtering).
3. Understanding of IP protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
4. Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and PRTG.
5. Multi-vendor experience (Cisco, Meraki, Ruckus, Extreme).
6. Strong experience in managed LAN environments, including switching and wireless.
7. Technical competence in at least one technology pillar.
8. Ability to interact confidently with customers and stakeholders.
9. Experience using CRM/ticketing systems.
Preferred Certifications
1. CCNP / JNCIA or equivalent
2. NSE 4 (Fortinet)
3. CCNA Security or above
4. Experience with Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass
