Business Controller
Manchester (hybrid)
Medlock Partners have recently been exclusively engaged by our client, a rapidly expanding Private Equity backed professional services business based in Manchester as they look to appoint a qualified commercial Management Accountant in a Business Controller remit.
Reporting into the Head of F,P&A, the Business Controller will be the finance lead and oversee the financial aspects of each project as it progresses. You will be focused on time-based projects that have their own individual budgets and deliverables and will be expected to provide ongoing reports on the financial performance and KPI’s of these projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Create and maintain budgets for all financial aspects of projects in conjunction with the Project/Contract Manager.
2. Analyse and approve outgoing expenses in line with agreed budgets.
3. Ensure all financial risk of each project is captured in the company business plan and in the project risk register.
4. Work with AR & AP to ensure timely payments and receipts of any funds or subsidies.
5. Business partner with key stakeholders to streamline financial processes to support the timely and efficient completion of projects within budget.
6. Provide timely and clear reporting on key financials and key KPI’s of projects to be included in any reporting packs.
7. Maintain and create any relevant financial models with the project team.
8. Flag any risks to the budget to the project/contract manager and senior financial team along with potential options to mitigate.
9. Track the NPV’s and IRRs of the project to ensure they are on track and deliver correct returns to investors.
10. Identify ways to streamline costs and enhance commercials to improve project returns.
11. Provide financial analysis for any future business cases required in collaboration with the PMO.
12. Support the assessment of claims and payment reconciliation.
Requirements:
1. Commercially focused Management Accountant, preferably with experience in project-related business.
2. Positive and proactive personality with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
3. Fully qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA).
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
6. Advanced computer literacy skills, particularly in Excel.
7. Effective organisational and time management skills.
