INTERNAL VACANCY
This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre (SPMIC), Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences, School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham, UK. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust. You will be part of a team working towards developing new ways to sensitise Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to brain cell types. The post holder will develop tissue clearing and 3D microscopy methodology for the rodent brain, specifically focusing on light-sheet microscopy of the mouse brain. They will also develop immunolabeling protocols for staining neurons and glial cells. The microscopy data will be subsequently fused with preclinical MRI data and classical histology in order to provide a better understanding of novel MRI contracts in terms of biophysical tissue features.
The successful applicant will be a member of the computational neuroimaging group (https://conilab.nottingham.ac.uk), led by Professor Stam Sotiropoulos. The team has an established track record in developing computational neuroimaging technologies for mapping the brain at a systems level. The role holder will further join the existing inter-disciplinary and vibrant environment team of the internationally-recognised Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre (www.nottingham.ac.uk/magres). They will work closely with collaborators in the same research programme from the University of Oxford and MIT.
Successful applicants will be expected to hold a PhD in a relevant domain, such as neuroscience, life sciences, or physics (or be near to completion of their PhD). Skills in neuronal tissue processing, tissue clearing, and light-sheet microscopy are essential. Previous exposure to preclinical MRI acquisition and processing is desirable.
Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 27.19 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. The post is offered on a fixed term contract for 9 months on a full time contract or 12 months on a part time contract. The contract end date cannot exceed 31 March 2026.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Please contact Stamatios Sotiropoulos at STAMATIOS.SOTIROPOULOS@NOTTINGHAM.AC.UK if you have further questions about this role. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
