We have an exciting opportunity to join the Cardiothoracic Theatre Team as Lead Practitioner at Northern General Hospital.
To provide positive team leadership, ensuring a high standard of patient care is delivered in a safe, professional environment.
The post holder is responsible for planning the development of the team and for the operational management of staff within a defined team, including appraisals, rotas, recruitment and selection and the supervision of students.
Support the Matron/Lead Nurse/CSM in providing a quality service to all its users and deliver the broad objectives of the clinical teams.
The post holder’s duties would reflect a 60% clinical and 40% managerial commitment.

1. Have continuing responsibility for the day to day management of the specialist area of the post.
2. Have continuing responsibility for the departmental assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of agreed standards.
3. Ensure that all aspects of the delivery of patient care are supported through the identification, application and dissemination of research findings relating to clinical practice ensuring that all aspects of practice are evidence based.
4. Provide clinical leadership within the speciality ensuring that patients receive a high standard of care appropriate for their surgical and anaesthetic needs according to identified and agreed protocols.
5. Ensure that all aspects of the Trust's policies on infection prevention and control related to the peri-operative pathway are adhered to.
The department supports a multidisciplinary approach to providing the surgical patient with a high-quality surgical experience.
