The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is a multi-faceted agency that serves juveniles of the Commonwealth. This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities
1. Performs maintenance of Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility and grounds.
2. Inspects and repairs all equipment and completes preventative maintenance as needed; develops preventative maintenance plan.
3. Orders necessary parts/supplies and maintains inventory.
4. Performs weekly, monthly and quarterly inspections of facility, equipment and grounds.
5. Makes requests for contract services as needed and oversees outside vendor repairs.
6. Supervises maintenance staff and oversees juveniles assisting with maintenance projects. Conducts employee performance evaluations.
7. Develops work schedules.
8. Keeps basic records of activities.
9. Coordinates conditions for safety, sanitation and security devices with fire and safety personnel.
10. Interprets and ensures compliance of policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Will be on call 24 hours a day. Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
