We have an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Support Worker to join our multi-disciplinary theatre team at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre initially on a 12 month maternity cover. This role requires an enthusiastic, committed and diligent person who is keen to move into a specialist department, able to work within a dynamic team and will strive to maintain the high standard of care offered to our patients. There will be an on call commitment required as part of the post to cover out of hours working.

Your role will be assisting the qualified staff within the department, preparing, cleaning and maintaining all areas of the theatre/day surgery Keep all areas of the units clean and tidy as required (according to the cleaning checklists) and facilitate a team approach to good housekeeping, assisting with transferring and positioning of patients and maintaining patient trolleys.
You will assist with the collection of blood from Blood Bank when required, transfer specimens to laboratory in the appropriate containers, report any mechanical failings to the Department Equipment Controller (DEC) and keep all areas restocked and contribute to identifying the need for changes in stock levels.
You will also maintaining written records as required, complete appropriate documentation and audit forms, have the ability to support the trained staff in recovery after training and being deemed competent to do so and have responsibility for the induction and development of newly recruited Theatre Health Care Support Workers.
