The post holder will act as a link between the Consultants, Medical Staff, Secretaries, and Failsafe Co-ordinators, ensuring all communication is passed on accurately whilst upholding confidentiality. They will be aware of surgery waiting times and ensure appointments are booked within the appropriate timescales.
Responsibilities include:
1. Managing workload and understanding RTT pathway targets to ensure patients are booked in priority order.
2. Ensuring that the Electronic Patient Records are an accurate documentation of the patient's care, updating information where necessary.
3. Prioritising workloads and working under pressure while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
4. Providing support with auditing surgical waiting lists through validation, anticipating any problems, and ensuring waiting list key standard targets are met/maintained.
5. Making last-minute changes to appointments/theatre lists to ensure full utilisation of theatre and clinic time.
6. Registering patients accurately on the waiting list and outpatient systems.
7. Sending appropriate information regarding admission/procedures.
8. Providing non-clinical information to patients, their relatives, GPs, community optometrists, and other hospitals, ensuring that all relevant personnel receive necessary information promptly.
9. Working on own initiative and making decisions within written guidelines, sometimes without reference to others.
10. Performing general admin duties such as scanning paper documents to patient records and distributing departmental post as applicable.
11. Completing ad hoc duties as required and requested by the Secretarial Pathway and/or Ophthalmology Admin and Failsafe Manager.
