Job overview
This is a permanent appointment to replace a retiring Vascular Surgeon at the Doncaster Vascular Centre. The existing team has 7 Vascular Surgeons and five interventional radiologists. The post is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but the post holder will work across hospital sites. The post holder will be responsible for the continued delivery and further enhancement of a highly regarded Vascular Service for patients living within the catchment area Doncaster and Bassetlaw, and surrounding areas.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-looking Consultant Vascular Surgeon with endovascular skills who will contribute to the further development and delivery of evidence-based vascular and endovascular services across the Trust. You will be flexible and innovative, helping to develop a vascular service capable of surviving the pressures on the NHS. The department has a strong record of innovation and the new appointees should ideally offer expertise in a sub-specialist area complementary to those offered by the present consultants.
Main duties of the job
* To maintain the highest clinical standards in the care of patients with Vascular problems
* To provide out-patient and in-patient care for patients with Vascular problems.
* To participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for vascular surgery
* To share with colleagues the provision of Vascular advice to medical and surgical inpatients
* To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing, to improve and advance the service
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues, and medical students.
* To participate actively in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance work to ensure continual improvements in the quality and safety of care
* To participate in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials
* To maintain and further personal learning through generic Trust training and Specialty Specific training (CPD)

Qualifications
* FRCS Vascular Surgery or equivalent
* You must be on the specialist register for Vascular Surgery or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
* Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
* You must have completed, or be within 6 months of completing, a 12-month recognised Vascular clinical fellowship, or equivalent, within your area of sub-specialty interest, though this is not essential for the General Vascular Surgery post.
Experience and Achievements
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Vascular Surgery
* Must be able to operate as an independent Vascular surgeon, and demonstrate adequate experience for the supervision of trainees
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within Vascular Surgery
* Wide based experience in Vascular Surgery and ability to perform endovascular procedures
* Understanding current issues within Vascular Surgery and the future direction of the specialty
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
* Attendance at a recognised management course
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
* Training in clinical and educational supervision
* Attendance at a teaching course
* Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
