Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and patient Personal Care Assistant to support an 89-year-old woman with dementia. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals who have dementia and be able to provide both personal care and companionship. The role requires someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, and can approach the care of a senior with kindness, respect, and dignity. Personal assistant will be required to also work with SU with family in the home and independently when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Personal Care: Assist with personal hygiene, including washing and drying hair, changing clothes as needed, applying creams, and keeping the commode clean, with the ability to assist with personal care with kindness and respect.
• Companionship: Engage in light conversation to encourage communication. A friendly and happy disposition is essential to make Service user feel comfortable and cared for.
• Light Housekeeping: Perform basic household tasks such as hovering, dusting, making the bed, and maintaining a clean environment.
• Support with Routine: Assist SU in maintaining her daily routine, which includes supporting her with her eating habits and ensuring she is also keeping up water intake, throughout the day.
• Encourage Interaction: While SU may not initiate conversation, it is important to encourage her to engage with you in simple, friendly dialogue when required.
• Flexible Hours: The role requires flexibility to work between the set hours of 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, or 2:00 pm, with at least 2 hours of care every day. Total hours per week: 22.25.
Key Requirements:
• Experience: Previous experience caring for individuals with dementia is essential.
• Patience & Understanding: Must be empathetic, patient, and capable of providing care with compassion.
• Communication Skills: Clear spoken English is essential SU has a slight hearing problem. The ability to engage in light conversation is critical and Applicant to be able to speak Clearly.
• Adaptability: Comfortable working within the set routine and being flexible with hours.
• Self-Motivated & Confident: Able to carry out tasks independently but also confident ask family questions if support or questions are SU’s Care Needs.
• Pet-Friendly: The applicant must be comfortable with dog
