New Routes is a longstanding small fostering service which is ‘not for profit’ based in Coleshill, Warwickshire with good road links to Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Nuneaton, Bedworth and Tamworth.
As a service we are looking to expand into new geographical areas.
The opportunity has arisen to join a well-established, committed and experienced team.
Candidates must be self-motivated, a team player and child focused. You will be required to provide effective and high-quality social work practice and undertake tasks related to recruitment, assessment, support, supervision and training of foster carers in accordance with legislation, guidance and good practice so as to appropriately meet the needs of children and young people and support them to reach their full potential. Given that we are a small service there is scope for creativity and opportunities to undertake direct work with the children and young people. Experience of working therapeutically and adopting trauma informed approaches is also essential to the role.
You must be a qualified social worker and registered with Social Work England. All posts are subject to Enhanced DBS checks, Employment References and Medical Clearance and also subject to a probation period. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
In return we offer full induction, regular supervision, a manageable caseload and ongoing training.
Purpose:
1. To deliver high quality services to children and young people and foster carers.
Professional Tasks:
1. To recruit, assess train and support foster carers to care for children and young people between the ages of 0 and 18 years.
2. Compile and present assessments and reports to internal and external panels.
3. To be involved in pre and post approval training of carers.
4. To supervise carers; a minimum of monthly visits to carers offering more if required, offer telephone support/advice to carers on a regular basis.
5. In conjunction with children’s Social Workers, identify suitable matches and to work in partnership with other professionals to support young people placed with foster carers. Attendance at Statutory reviews, education, health and any other professional meetings in relation to the child is required.
6. To comply with all relevant legislation and the Agency’s policies, procedures and practice guidelines.
7. To maintain a high standard of knowledge and skills in fostering and contribute to the development of policy and good professional practice by participating in team meetings, peer support, working groups, seminars, study days and in-service training.
8. To demonstrate an awareness of the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and commitment to their implementation.
9. To work in partnership with foster carers in the planning, development and ongoing work of the service.
10. To ensure comprehensive and detailed records are maintained in accordance with service user and Agency confidentiality, policy, procedure and legislation.
11. To participate in the fostering (office) duty system.
12. Participation in the out-of-hours telephone advice line for foster carers.
13. To promote and communicate the service to the public and other agencies.
14. To undertake additional duties as may be identified from time to time as commensurate with the post.
15. To actively participate in recruitment activities.
16. Compile training programmes and deliver/co-facilitate training.
17. Compile workshops for children and young people and deliver/co-facilitate these.
18. To participate in activities and engage children and young people.
19. To assist with and contribute positively to Ofsted inspections fulfilling all regulatory responsibilities.
