Epsilogen is seeking an outstanding individual with laboratory management expertise to join the company at an exciting time in its development. This role requires accurate and precise record keeping, a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft suite applications, and online database maintenance. The preferred candidate should be able to prepare basic reagents and adequately maintain essential laboratory inventories, facility setups, and a wide range of scientific machinery/equipment, with a strong emphasis on the strict standardised safety rules that the company needs to comply with. The candidate would be expected to bring a high degree of organisational capability and ideally five years’ experience in a similar role. You will report directly to the head of the laboratory. This is a full-time, laboratory-based role at the company’s state-of-the-art facilities in West London.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Ensure smooth and efficient laboratory operations.
2. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety procedures, keeping up to date with any new legislative requirements that may arise.
3. Maintenance of laboratory records and performance reports.
4. Write and update inventories.
5. Create and manage multiple databases.
6. Write and continuously update protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
7. Liaise with the laboratory staff and site management daily.
8. Liaise with external suppliers on all aspects pertaining to consumables and the procurement and maintenance of equipment (e.g., procure and negotiate advantageous pricing of consumables, ensure timely scheduling of equipment maintenance or when contracted, checking and calibration as required).
9. Train new lab members in all relevant areas required for their activities.
10. Organise shipments of reagents to external commercial/academic partners and collaborators.
11. Cover certain key responsibilities of the technician when they are absent including stock checking and ordering.
12. Any other activity that the team may require as needs arise.
The ideal candidate must:
1. Be a strong, highly organised team player, with the ability to plan effectively at their own initiative and communicate regularly and clearly with all members of the team.
2. Be flexible, adaptable and resilient to changes in company environment and priorities.
3. Have excellent oral and written communication abilities and general analytic and decision-making skills.
4. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Microsoft suite applications and online database management and procurement systems (e.g., Amici); familiarity/experience with DNA sequencing analysis (e.g., Benchling) would be desirable.
5. Visit the laboratory out of hours on occasion and with no advance notice should there be a critical need in their area of responsibility (e.g. sudden failure in freezers or cell incubators).
6. A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role is required.
7. Professional, mature, dedicated, and detail oriented.
8. Able to work independently in a highly-organised, methodical manner.
9. Ability to work collegially with colleagues at all levels of seniority within the company.
10. Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to approach, influence, and motivate people.
11. Comfortable to point out existing or potential problems/areas for improvement to the line manager across domain of responsibility.
