An opportunity has arisen for a Learning Support Assistant to work within the Therapies and Education Service at Rampton Hospital. The main purpose of the role is to deliver learning strategies alongside and under the supervision of a Lecturer. The post holder will support patients who have various educational needs and complex mental health issues. The unique setting of Rampton Hospital requires the potential post holder to have various skills and experience relevant to the role.
You will be joining an established team that is made up of lectures and support assistants of various grades. We work across all four care streams and have an education room in each day unit. We are a friendly and hardworking team that supports each other and encourages staff to be the best they can be. Staff are encouraged to take their professional development seriously and to take opportunities as they arise.
The post holder will support patients within a day unit setting and on the wards. The aim is for patients to achieve educational goals, work towards their recovery, and to develop the requisite skills that will assist access to their treatment pathway. The successful candidate will need to be empathetic, observant, and confident. You will be working with people who have severe mental health issues; having patience is paramount to the role. Keeping patients engaged is another key aspect of this role, so a passion for teaching and learning is essential. We are looking for a team player, as you will be working closely with other education staff, and there is an expectation to work collaboratively.
As one of the largest mental health and community trusts in the East Midlands and one of the biggest employers in Nottinghamshire, we are committed to flexible and agile working, including the opportunity to join our bank. Your health and wellbeing is our priority, and as such, we invest significantly in this via our in-house Occupational Health Service, Staff Counselling Service, and Health and Wellbeing Team.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
1. Supporting patients with educational learning on and off the ward.
2. Supporting teaching staff in the classroom by providing assistance to learners.
3. Supporting teaching staff by creating learning resources, report writing, and contributing to reports.
4. Escorting patients to and from the area.
5. Working with and contributing to the wider Therapies & Education Service (TES).
6. Maintain security procedures.
7. Engage with clinical and managerial supervision.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled Worker visa. Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances, the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
