It reports news and current affairs, broadcasting several bulletins as part of a live 24/7 broadcast operation, as well as offering online content across social media, websites and other digital applications. Watched by hundreds of millions around the world each day, CGTN puts an emphasis on quality storytelling to enable audiences to “See the difference.” Background to the role: In this role you will work as directed by a news editor or line producer to fulfil the editorial mission of CGTN Europe across TV and digital platforms. Your duties may vary according to shift patterns and news demands. The media is a constantly evolving industry and as new platforms and technologies change opportunities and audience habits, CGTN will evolve to keep pace. In general, you will be required to identify, research and produce news stories for broadcast as well as video or text stories for online. Writing, video editing and gathering voices as well as creating social media posts will all be required as part of the role. As a member of the Output team, you will be expected to bring the full extent of your experience and knowledge to bear on the role to the benefit of the entire team. Your expertise in specific areas – such as video editing, copy writing, script writing, audio, social media, reporting or news planning may mean you are expected to work on certain projects. Job objectives: · Originate and execute innovative, creative, engaging and accurate content and segments for broadcast and distribution across digital platforms for a global audience. · Originate and commission graphics and other creative content. · Pitch stories and add value to on-air segments; co-ordinate logistics for daily news programmes. · Produce daily multimedia news or feature content for CGTN.com and CGTN Europe and various social media platforms. · Adhere to CGTN editorial policies, while producing content that is creative and engaging. · Produce copy and edit video as part of strict approvals process for content creation. · Keep on top of trending stories and contribute ideas to improve coverage on a given topic or event. · Identify the best formats for telling a story and make use of them according to deadlines and priorities. · Have a strong understanding of business, financial, economic & geopolitical issues with the ability to translate complex concepts into everyday language. · Demonstrate proficiency with editing software such as Avid, Adobe or FCP and newsroom systems such as ENPS. · Demonstrate proficiency in the latest digital technology and systems across websites and social media platforms. · Thrive under pressure, and be prepared to adapt as circumstances change. · Be able to work irregular hours and an extended schedule as the news cycle demands. · Excel at work within a culturally and ethnically diverse staff. Person specification: Confident working in a high-pressure fast-paced environment, the candidate will be able to operate proactively and work individually or as part of a team. They will be full of creative ideas both for story subjects and presentation formats and always willing to experiment. At the same time, they will bring accuracy and attention to detail to everything they do. Essential: · Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent experience · 2 years’ experience in journalism, preferably with an international broadcaster. · Extensive knowledge of current events, culture, sport, fashion and/or geopolitics and international relations, especially Europe & Asia · Seamless video editing and an accurate and concise writing style · Understanding of social media both as a source and an output platform · Awareness of journalism ethics and legal principles · Ability to form contacts and use them to discover and inform story reporting Desirable: · International languages · Use of digital analytics tools · Knowledge of television production platforms · Specialist areas of expertise in the news, business or science space · Strong presence on social media · Ability to present on camera · Experience filming, especially in mobile journalism About CGTN Europe China Global Television Network, or CGTN, is an international media organisation launched on December 31, 2016.
