Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi-professional team, within their specialist service.
Work alongside other specialist nurses / Head of Nursing to ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality service. Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the service/specialty.
Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, and patient experience, utilizing research in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
Support the development and delivery of a program of practice and professional development for staff within the specialty.
A minimum of 60% of time must be spent in clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
1. Take responsibility for ensuring effective communication between all service providers within the specialty.
2. Establish and maintain good positive working relationships with the Heads of Nursing, Sister / Charge Nurse and their teams, Education and Practice Development Lead, Matrons, relevant Clinicians, Service Managers and General Managers, specialist nurses and support staff.
3. In collaboration with the Education and Practice Development Teams / Nurse Specialist Lead develop and promote working partnerships between the Trust and academic staff at local Universities involved in the provision of nursing and multi professional Programs of education.
4. Actively participate in local, national and international networking to maintain and develop expert level of knowledge in the specialty.
5. Ensure that the importance and implications of education, research, and ideas are raised in appropriate forums.

Job responsibilities
1. Manage a delegated caseload of patients, as appropriate within the speciality, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
2. Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the Cardiology service.
3. Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the Cardiology service, ensuring the delivery of appropriate evidence based care.
4. Support, assist and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems, be innovative and creative to develop the service to work for all specialities. Promote the philosophy of patient-centred care and establish and maintain a supportive relationship with the patient and their family at all times.
5. To assess and diagnose specific symptoms within scope of practice, advise medical and nursing staff and/or prescribe and review medication for therapeutic.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
1. Post-basic Specialist Qualification or willingness to undertake.
2. Recognised Teaching Qualification.
3. Evidence of post-registration educational continuing development.
4. Have completed a Practice Assessor preparation day and have recent experience in supporting learners in your workplace and supervising their progress and assessing their practice.
5. Recordable specialist qualification at Degree level.
6. Clinical Leadership Programme.
Experience
1. 3 years Post-Reg experience to include experience in Urology.
2. Clinical experience at band 5 or above.
3. Specialist knowledge.
4. Evidence of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice.
